VILLA TARGETING A SECOND SUCCESSIVE WIN

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and his Aston Villa players are eyeing a second successive win in all competitions ahead of the visit of West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend. Villa play hosts to the London club on Saturday looking to build on the win over Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup second round in midweek.

Aston Villa have not had the best of starts to the new season, but they could make it two straight wins with a victory at home to West Ham United. They have one win and two defeats in three league games including the disappointing 3-1 loss to hosts Crystal Palace in their last league outing.

Villa bounced back from the comeback defeat to Palace with the 4-1 thumping of home team Bolton Wanderers in the second round of the EFL Cup thus booking their place in the third round. Aston Villa have been handed a difficult fixture in the third round as they have an away game against Manchester United.

For the Bolton game, Northern Ireland international forward star Dion Charles scored the first goal on 24 minutes in the colours of the home team before Brazil international Douglas Luiz replied with the equaliser for Aston Villa with nine minutes left on the clock in the first half. Villa took the game away from Bolton with three second half goals. Danny Ings (penalty), Lucas Digne and substitute Leon Bailey all found the back of the net for Aston Villa in the second half.

Aston Villa can build on the win over Bolton Wanderers with an home victory over West Ham United when the two team meet in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The Hammers have made a poor start to the season with three defeats from three games and they are at the bottom of the Premier League table.
