ASTON VILLA LOSE TO FOREST IN ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Former Premier League side Aston Villa lost their encounter against English Championship side Nottingham Forest 2-1 over the weekend, further denting their chances of regaining top flight status at the end of May.


Villa took the lead first but lost their edge, losing to the hosts with ten men on the pitch. Jonathan Kodjia curled a shot into the home team’s net in the 19th minute. However, the home team ensured they did not end the half without equalizing the scoreline.

Jamie Ward sent in a good effort that Villa shot stopper Sam Johnstone stopped but spilled allowing Britt Assombalonga tap in the equalizer three minutes from the end of the first half.

Villa manager Steve Bruce thought the game would end 1-1 as they held unto the scoreline after losing Jack Grealish in the 78th minute. He was obviously weakened by the late winner for Forest as 17-year-old Ben Brereton scored in injury time.

Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has stated that his club is on the right track and that they are improving.


He was speaking after the match that saw Aston Villa earn a draw against Derby County. He said that he was pleased with the performance and that it is never easy to play away from home. He admitted that Derby County is a good team and that not many teams will earn a point there. He said that with a bit of luck they could have earned a victory, but he is pleased with the point.

Roberto Di Matteo added that he is pleased with the ways his players performed on the day. They were focused and followed the instructions. He believes that the club is on the right track and that they will be able to win games in the future.

Aston Villa Is Taken Over By A Chinese Group

The Aston Villa is in the news.

Its takeover is coming to an end with Damien Cornolli to be appointed to the role of technical director. Cornolli will return to football on English grounds is being speculated by many.


Aston Villa is bided for a takeover. A Chinese consortium is the buyer. The buyout is imminent in the coming days. The deal is rumored to be around 75 million Euros. It is to be completed by Randy Lerner, the present owner of the club. By this deal Lerner will be washing his hands of the West Midlands club. As per the Chinese owners, Damien Cornolli would be leading the operations of the club. This was informed to the media sources. Cornolli is currently 43 years of age. He left playing for Liverpool in the year 2012. He has been out of the game since. His last position was as director of football for the team.

Lerner on the other hand, is ready to sell up the club. Cornolli has had experience at Tottenham as well as St Etienne. He arrived at Anfield in 2010 in November. He oversaw the signing of Gareth Bale to Spurs team as well as Luis Suarez who went to join Liverpool. He has studied the setup of the Villa’s team. He would be conducting an overhaul of the team at Villa Park.
